Dr. Saksit Simchareon is Thailand's leading tiger biologist and
Director of the Khao Nang Ram Research Station in Huai Kha Khaeng
Wildlife Sanctuary. He is building a team of tiger researchers. His
assistant, Sompoad, just finished his M.Sc. on a camera trapping based
population estimate.
In June, Khao Nang Rum's Assistant Chief, Ms. Achara Simcahreon, will start her Ph.D. on tiger ecology and prey relationships. Her research will focus on the relationship of tiger home range size to prey abundance and other natural and anthropogenic variables. She plans to work at the level of the entire Tenasserim landscape. She and Saksit are now undertaking a technical assessment of GPS radio collars for use at this spatial scale.
Three of Saksit's assistants are starting M.Sc. programs on tiger genetics, sambar ecology, and prey abundance.
